Installing Speech Recognition

Top  Previous  Next

Voice Command uses Microsoft's speech recognition engine to recognize your voice. Depending on the Windows platform and other software installed, the status of your computer for speech recognition likely follows one of 3 possible scenarios:

1. The speech recognition engine is already installed.

There is a chance that the speech recognition engine is already installed on your computer. To check if your system is already enabled for speech recognition:

Make sure the microphone is connected to your computer, start Guitar Guru and click the microphone button micoff, or, click the Options menu, point to Speech Recognition and click Start Speech Recognition. The microphone button will change to micon if speech recognition is installed and Voice Command started successfully. If the Speech Recognition Not Installed dialog appears then proceed to #2.

Speech recognition is built-in to the Windows Vista operating system. No further action is required.

2. The speech recognition engine is on your computer but not installed (non-Vista platforms only).

If your computer has Microsoft Office installed, depending on the version, you may be able to install speech recognition from Microsoft Word:

Open Microsoft Word, and from the Tools menu, click Speech and follow the instructions in the installation program. If there is no Speech option, or you have problems installing it from Microsoft Word, proceed to #3.
Close Microsoft Word and click the microphone button micoff in Guitar Guru. If the Speech Recognition Not Installed dialog appears then proceed to #3.

3. The speech recognition engine is not on your computer (non-Vista platforms only).
