Audio File Problems

The DAF button is disabled.

The DAF button is disabled if the current Guitar Guru session is not synced to a CD recording. Although most sessions are CD synced, some arrangements are not album-matching versions and others do not have a matching recording available.

Clicking the DAF button results in an application error message.

If you get a No Codecs Installed message when you click the DAF button, check the following:

This version of Guitar Guru includes support for WMA audio files only. Make sure your system has the minimum system requirements for playing WMA files.
For the latest information on future audio format support check the Online Help.

Several audio file types are not listed in the Audio File Open dialog box.

Not all audio file types are supported. This version of Guitar Guru includes support for WMA audio files only. Information on how to obtain additional Musicnotes codecs will be posted in the Online Help as they become available.

The web browser opens when selecting an audio file.

If your web browser opens and you get a message The file must be reopened after acquiring the license, then you are opening a file protected with DRM, and you must follow the instructions on the music vendor’s web site to acquire the rights to play the file. When you receive acknowledgement that the license has been granted, you must reselect the audio file in Guitar Guru. If you have problems acquiring a license contact your music service vendor.

It takes a long time to load an audio file.

If it takes an abnormally long time to load an audio file after it is selected, the file is likely protected with DRM and Guitar Guru is in the process of acquiring the license to play it. Most of the time license acquisition is transparent to the user, however the process sometimes requires user interaction with the music vendor’s web site. See the previous issue for more information.

The session is playing, but there is no sound coming from the speakers.

If a session appears to be playing but there is no sound coming from your speakers, try the following:

Increase the volume in Guitar Guru. See Changing the Volume.
In the Windows Volume Control, increase the volumes under Volume Control and Wave, and make sure the Mute boxes are unchecked.
Increase the volume setting on your speakers.
Close other programs that may be playing audio files.
Make sure you have a working sound card. Consult your computer’s owner’s manual or the computer manufacturer.

The wrong song is playing.

Guitar Guru saves the audio file last selected for each related Guitar Guru session. In this case the audio file selection dialog will not be displayed when you click the DAF button. If you want to select a different song click the DAF button a second time to display the Audio File Selection dialog box. See Playing Sessions with Audio Files.

The audio is not synchronized with the graphics.

In most cases the audio will match the graphics reasonably well but will not be exact. Guitar Guru sessions have been produced to be closely synchronized with specific CD recordings using original manufactured CDs. Since the sources of audio files and the methods available to create them are numerous, the end result is not always consistent with the CD source. If the audio and graphics are not reasonably in sync, check the following:

Is the audio file the actual recording of the song from the CD indicated in the song panel?
Try playing the session again. On some computers the first time the session is played takes longer to initialize, resulting in the audio falling behind the graphics.
