Coldplay's debut album, Parachutes, instantly brought this rock quartet to the forefront of the British music scene,
earning the band a coveted Mercury Prize nomination in 2000. The album's hit single, "Yellow,"
became an anthem for ABC and was one of the biggest singles of 2000.
In August of 2002 Chris Martin (vocals/piano), Jon Buckland (guitar), Will Champion (drums),
and Guy Berryman (bass) returned with their follow-up album, A Rush of Blood to the Head.
Expanding on their influences of Bob Dylan,
Neil Young,
and fellow Brit-rockers Radiohead,
A Rush of Blood... truly showcased what this band is capable of (above and beyond the success story of Parachutes).
The first U.S. single, "In My Place" and a heavy rotation on MTV2 and other popular music portals helped push the band to a newfound
popularity in the United States.
On June 17, 2008 Coldplay released their fourth album, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, featuring the single "Viva La Vida."
