Canadian-born jazz pianist, singer and songwriter, Diana Krall, got her start in music at age four through her classical piano lessons - an education that continued throughout high school jazz band experience and her attendance at the Berklee College of Music. It was the influence of her father, and his collection of Fats Waller records, however, that most greatly influenced her and her love of jazz.
In the 90's, after moving back to New York from Toronto (following a brief stint in LA), Krall found herself performing in a jazz trio. Still, it wasn't until 1993 when, with the release of her debut album Steppin' Out on the small label, Justin Time Records, that Krall first started a career as a serious solo musician. After switching to label, Impulse!, Krall released 1995's All For You to much critical acclaim.
By the time 2001's The Look of Love was released, Krall had garnered a major following through the exceptional response to her 1999 album When I Look in Your Eyes, appearances on the Lilith Fair Tour, and the use of her performances in various mediums, most notably film and television. The album sent Krall to the top of the Billboard charts, and went quintuple platinum in Canada - making Krall the first Canadian jazz artist to accomplish this feat.
In 2004, Krall released her seventh full-length release, and first album to include original songs penned by Krall and new husband Elvis Costello. The Girl in the Other Room was met once again with enormous critical praise due to both Krall's usual outstanding performance, as well as her newfound penchant for songwriting.
