A prolific orchestral and stage composer and early champion of copyright laws, Victor Herbert, along with John Philip Sousa, Irving Berlin and others, founded the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, known today for its ASCAP acronym, in 1914.
That same year, Herbert wrote one of his many then-fashionable Broadway operettas, 'The Only Girl; A Musical Farcical Comedy.' 'The Only Girl' was one of a number of Herbert shows known in particular for its strong score. And today, you can download sheet music for female lead number, "When You're Away," as our gift to you!
Choose from piano/vocal, guitar tab and instrumental arrangements of the piece, and bring a bit of Broadway history into your own home or music room now. But hurry, this song is only available for free through the end of the August.
