A 19th century polymath of the arts, Samuel Lover was a painter, poet, novelist, songwriter and composer. Lover's popular musical accounts of life in Ireland are often sprinkled with his signature humor, of which he created his "Irish Evenings" one-man show that toured the globe. Perhaps a touch of Lover's whimsy rubbed off on his grandson, turn-of-the-century Broadway composer Victor Herbert.

This March, download free sheet music for Samuel Lover's "The Low-Backed Car," a joyfully composed ballad that contains plenty of animated Irish imagery. Enjoy the traditional folk tune on-the-go with our suite of free iOS, Android, Mac and PC apps, and spread a bit of Gaelic glee wherever the music takes you this St. Paddy's Day and beyond.
