Chief Technology Officer
Established Madison Web/Tech Company Seeks a Chief Technology Officer
The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) position will oversee Musicnotes.com's web and application programming teams
and be responsible for the complete Musicnotes.com web site, portfolio of applications and technical systems.
This individual will lead the end-to-end management of development projects, and deliver exceptional functionality
to the customer experience. The CTO will ensure proper interpretations of business requirements, maintain business
process understanding, and develop sustainable technical solutions. They will develop technology and process
improvements and be a key leader in the long-term strategy and sustainability of both the E-Commerce platform and the
Musicnotes portfolio of applications.
It is expected that The Chief Technology Officer will spearhead a change in Musicnotes' technical corporate culture
and systems methodologies, which is already underway.
In addition, as Musicnotes is in the business of reselling copyrighted intellectual property, the CTO, like other
employees, should be comfortable with the concept of authorial copyright.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee all areas of technology; Web & App Development Teams and internal systems.
- Understand business processes and technology within the application portfolio, including interdependencies,
customer and business impact, and future direction.
- Lead application development projects and enhancements to improve the functionality, reliability,
scalability and security of the applications and systems.
- Manage technology projects with accurate time estimates, adherence to deadlines and strong communication to stakeholders,
including scheduling and managing the work efforts of developers.
- Provide leadership and direction and manage technology staff, including recruitment, training/developing,
performance management, etc.
- Collaborate with internal teams as a technology partner in advancing business capabilities.
- Collaborate with third-party IT teams and serve as a partner in integration.
- Oversee, create and improve department operations and procedures.
- Ensure sound architectural designs are employed and advocate for best practices and processes.
- Provide input to annual budget exercises and manage spending.
- Understand current and emerging Internet related technologies and interact with industry peers.
- Safeguard the personal data of Musicnotes' customers, as well as the intellectual property of Musicnotes and its publishing partners.
- Ensure fallback systems and data storage are in place for disaster recovery and test them regularly.
- Ensure Musicnotes abides by industry mandated standards including P3P, W3C and PCI DSS.
- Knowledge and understanding of software development lifecycles.
- Provide excellent level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
Education Requirement:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related discipline.
- Or additional years of education and experience may be substituted for each other, as determined by Human Resources.
Basic Qualifications:
- 10+ years of experience in IT or E-Commerce technology and application programming
- 5+ years of technology management experience
Knowledge and Skills:
- Demonstrated ability to lead teams, promote team-based behaviors, fostering cultural change and get results.
- Ability to lead teams to deliver multiple simultaneous development projects and application support.
- Experience with Agile and Test Driven Development (TDD) methodologies and work environments.
- Fundamental understanding of .NET and version control.
- Fundamental understanding of web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, HTTP and AJAX)
- Fundamental understanding of current application platforms such as iOS, Android and Adobe Flex.
- Familiarity with frameworks such as MVC, data access layers (such as OR/M) and design patterns (such as Gang of Four).
- Knowledge of networking protocols, such as DNS routing and IPV6.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze and solve complex problems and improve complex processes.
- Excellent organization, multi-tasking, prioritization and scheduling skills and practices.
- Strong team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong interest in music, musical notation and ability to read notation preferred.
