Musicnotes Presents Multi-Platinum Singer/Songwriter Vanessa Carlton With First Annual “Musicnotes Song of the Year Award”

Musicnotes, the online leader in digital sheet music announced that it has presented its first annual Musicnotes Song of the Year award in Digital Sheet Music for Vanessa Carlton’s Grammy-nominated ballad, “A Thousand Miles.” The award was presented to Carlton and David Renzer, Worldwide President of Universal Music Publishing Group, at the Second Annual Songs of Hope charity event in Los Angeles on April 2. The Universal Music Publishing Group sheet music repertoire is represented through a publishing agreement with Warner Brothers Publications.

“The reemergence of the singer-songwriter in popular music is a wonderful thing,” said Musicnotes’ CEO, Kathleen Marsh. “Our music-making audience discovered this song even before the CD was released, so we knew it was going to be a big hit. Sales for the song have been very strong over time. We are so happy to see quality music recognized and rewarded.”

The song, written, co-produced and performed by Carlton on her debut album Be Not Nobody (A&M), found a very receptive audience through the Musicnotes.com website, a reception that started even prior to the song’s recognition in other media outlets. ‘A Thousand Miles’ quickly grew to be the top-selling title in the history of the Musicnotes digital sheet music format. To date, Musicnotes has sold over 10,000 pieces of Vanessa Carlton’s sheet music.

Commented David Renzer, Worldwide President, Universal Music Publishing Group: “Not only was Vanessa’s song, “A Thousand Miles,” a pop smash, but it struck a chord with fans who play piano — a tribute to Vanessa’s writing skills and classical training. We are very pleased she received this award from Musicnotes.com.”
