Topping charts and sheet music stands in Ireland right now is Sam Smith‘s “Stay With Me.” Smith’s debut studio album ‘In the Lonely Hour’ dropped last month. He has an avid international fan following, including his chum Ed Sheeran, who’s said “Stay With Me” is his favorite song from the last year. See Smith’s video here, and Ed Sheeran’s recent cover of “Stay With Me” here.
Prior to this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, a common linnet was just a small bird. But the Dutch duo The Common Linnets made it big with their entry, “Calm After the Storm,” currently #1 in their Netherlands home. Although losing the contest to Conchita Wurst’s “Rise Like A Phoenix,” The Common Linnets are flying high throughout Europe. See their Eurovision performance here.
In France, the leading single is by a German duo who cite reggae influences (talk about international!). Milky Chance formed when singer/songwriter Clemens Rehbein and DJ Philipp Dausch met in their secondary school advanced music class. Their massive hit single “Stolen Dance” currently has nearly 37 million views on YouTube.
Another Dutch artist topping play-now lists is Mr Probz, who’s single “Waves” has seen massive success since its recent remixed release. “Waves” is sitting at #1 in Belgium, and #3 in Australia, right behind “Stolen Dance” and our next song! See the video for the “Waves” remix here.
Australian pop/dance mega-group Justice Crew released “Que Sera” last month, and it quickly became this year’s most successful Aussie single thus-far. The group won Australia’s Got Talent in 2010, and their popularity has since reached Europe and North America, touring with artists like One Direction, Ke$ha and Pitbull.
Meanwhile, in New Zealand, British EDM duo Sigma is leading the singles with their latest “Nobody To Love.” The keyboard-heavy song samples Kanye West’s “Bound 2.” See if you can hear the relation when you watch the music video here.
