2017’s Most Popular Sheet Music Searches By State (Printable/Sharable PDF!)
*Data gathered from Google Analytics most popular search terms by region from January 1, 2017 to June 1, 2017.

From sea to shining sea, we’re looking at what our fellow musicians are currently playing (or are hoping to play) across America via the most popular search terms used at Musicnotes.com, the world’s leading source of professionally licensed digital sheet music and guitar tab.

To compile our list, we looked at Google Analytics results for what sheet music terms Americans were searching, broken down by state from January 1 to June 1, 2017. Each result is the #1 searched term among Musicnotes.com’s more than 3 million US customers (the company serves nearly 3 million customers outside the US as well).

Although some results were not surprising (Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” is consistently near the top of Musicnotes.com’s bestsellers list), we did come across a few eye-opening results. Among the 14 states where Hallelujah’s likely to be sitting atop a music stand, 5 are in the Midwest and 4 in the Southwest. Both North and South Dakota also agree on Leonard Cohen’s oft-covered classic.

‘La La Land’ hit “City of Stars” has inspired musicians in Washington, California and Arkansas, while fellow triple-winner (quadruple if you count “Imperial March” in Florida) “Star Wars” reigns in New Hampshire, Pennsylvania and Wyoming.

Other duplicates include “All of Me” in Georgia, Massachusetts and Las Vegas (you need music for all those weddings, afterall!), “Dear Evan Hansen” sheet music in Montana and Connecticut (the one-time home of co-writer Justin Paul),  “A Thousand Years” in Iowa and Maryland, and “How Far I’ll Go” from Disney’s ‘Moana‘ in Nebraska and North Carolina. Curiously, Pacific neighbors to Polynesia in Hawaii have been searching for “Ghostbusters” sheet music, although we can’t blame them for showing this fun-to-play theme some love.

All-in-all, 30 different terms took the top spot in most popularly searched sheet music by state. It just goes to show, these United State of music contain a wonderful diversity of artistic styles, genres and talents!
