2021 Tony Awards: The Winners

2021 Tony Awards: The Winners

Hosted by Audra McDonald and Leslie Odom Jr, the 74th annual Tony Awards took place Sunday, September 26. After missing out on the award show in 2020, it was time to finally celebrate all of the incredible shows and the people who made them great. In fact, the event’s official title was “The Tony Awards Presents: Broadway’s Back”!

Moulin Rouge! The Musical ended up winning 10 awards, including Best Musical, while the Best Play category went to The Inheritance. Although Slave Play had earned a record 12 nominations (the most for a non-musical play), it ended the night with no awards.

There were wonderful performances from all of the Best Musical nominees. Plus, Kristin Chenoweth and Idina Menzel came together to perform the beloved song “For Good” from Wicked. And that wasn’t the only reunion: Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal (Rent) sang together, Audra McDonald and Brian Stokes Mitchell (Ragtime) reunited for a performance, and even some of the cast of Hairspray came back for an exciting arrangement of “You Can’t Stop the Beat”!
