Pride Month is well underway, and musicians across the world are using music as a way to celebrate love, acceptance, and diversity. However, this year’s Pride Month is different as June 28, 2019, will mark the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, when Marsha P. Johnson, Sylvia Rivera, Stormé DeLarverie, and other queer patrons of the Stonewall Inn in New York City fought back against yet another police raid on the club. Though the first official Pride parade took place the following year, Stonewall was the direct progenitor of Pride as we know it.
The LGBTQ+ community still faces massive struggles to this day, but the past fifty years have nonetheless brought a lot of hard-won progress. 2019’s musical landscape is incredibly diverse, and artists like Janelle Monae, Frank Ocean, and Sam Smith can be out and proud. Musicnotes is proud to support the LGBTQ+ community by offering sheet music from a plethora (a rainbow, dare we say?) of queer and queer-friendly artists. Here are some of our favorite songs for Pride.
