Super Mario Bros. Main Theme Selected for National Recording Registry

The Super Mario Bros. Main Theme, otherwise known as Ground Theme, has been inducted into the National Recording Registry at the Library of Congress. The iconic video game theme, written by Koji Kondo, is recognized for its cultural significance and impact on popular music and video game culture. This is the first video game song to be selected since the registry’s inception in 2000. 25 songs are chosen each year to promote preservation of a variety of musical pieces from many genres. This year’s list also includes All Hail the Queen by Queen Latifah, the first female rapper to be inducted, as well as All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey, Imagine by John Lennon, and St. Louis Blues by Handy’s Memphis Blues Band.
