We wanted to highlight just a few members of our staff who have incredible musical talent that extends beyond the workplace. These artists play a variety of instruments and perform different genres, which means you now get to discover some great new music!
Of course, we can’t feature every musician at Musicnotes. But we hope this gives you a fun look into some of the people behind the company! 😊
Gabe Pope
Up first, we’ve got a member of our Publications team, Gabe Pope!
Gabe formally studied jazz at Berklee College of Music, although he started learning piano and drums by ear at a very young age. He is a self-taught engineer and has also produced two albums as a member of the indie band Lower Stacks. Gabe also played many of the instruments on the Lower Stacks albums. You can listen to the recordings here!

Michael Sinshack
Next, we’ve got Michael Sinshack!
Michael is primarily a self-taught musician starting at the age of 15. He grew up in Chicago but moved to Wisconsin in 1995 for school. Michael didn’t study music seriously until college and eventually earned a Master’s degree in music composition from UW-Milwaukee. He was doing doctoral studies at UW-Madison when he joined Musicnotes in 1999, working as a music typesetter, copyist, and transcriptionist!
On his recent album Making Noises I Don’t Understand – A Planetary Suite, all of the music was written, mixed, and performed (drums) by Michael.

Signature Artists
We’ve also got two staff members who are Signature Artists: Miles McConnell and Joe Harris.
Miles McConnell
Miles McConnell is a classical guitarist whose arrangements reflect his diverse musical interests. From traditional classical repertoire to film music to arrangements of pop music, he brings dedication and passion to each arrangement and performance.

Joe Harris
Do you ever download the guitar arrangement from each Free Song of the Month? If so, you’ve gotten to enjoy music that was arranged by Joe Harris!
Joe is a professional guitarist, arranger, and composer. With a masters degree in classical guitar and a PhD in music theory, he specializes in creating intermediate-level arrangements that are fun to play.
