What’s New This Week: 10/11/23

Here’s a variety of the new songs we have to offer this week! Be sure to click here for all our new songs!

·  “Problematic” by BoyWithUke: From BoyWithUke’s newly released album Lucid Dreams, this happens to be the last album from his “dreams” album set. Each piece focuses on the theme of a particular dream, and this catchy song focuses on the end of a relationship gone wrong. This arrangement translates the ukulele accompaniment onto the piano, so try to bring out the percussive qualities of this instrument while adding in the easy-to-sing melody.

·  “Magical” by Ed Sheeran: Here is another song from Ed Sheeran’s recently released album Autumn Variations. Ed decided to crash a wedding in Las Vegas and performed this song for the surprised couple. The song emphasizes that it is magical to be in love. It features a syncopated pattern throughout the verses, and since this is a simpler song to put together, try to put your own spin on it!

·  “From the Start” by Signature Score: Originally by Laufey, this Chinese-Icelandic singer is based in L.A., and this song comes from her recently released album Bewitched. She sings about having feelings for a guy that only considers her a friend, and she wants to tell him how she really feels. This tune arranged by Signature Artist Signature Score has a jazz-pop and a bossa nova feel, so be sure to bring out the interesting syncopated chordal shifts along with the laid-back, beautiful melody.

·  “Takin’ It to the Streets” by Kelly Valleau: Originally by The Doobie Brothers, this was the first single with Michael McDonald on vocals, giving the song a more soulful feel. This acoustic fingerstyle arrangement by Signature Artist Kelly Valleau puts together all the band parts and vocals on one guitar, including the interesting chord changes. Be sure to bring out the melody above all the other exciting instrumental parts.

·  “La Vie en rose” by Mark Klett: This French standard, originally by Edith Piaf, literally means "life in pink," or "life in happy hues." Other songwriters back then didn't think this song was going to be successful, but this became one of Edith’s best known pieces to date. Signature Artist Mark Klett puts his own spin on this classic. He starts out with a music box feel along with a couple different variations of the melody but eventually develops the solo into a gorgeous flowing piece.

·  “Viva la Vida” by Katherine Cordova: Originally by Coldplay, this song is quite recognizable after hearing just the first measure of the rhythmic string accompaniment. This arrangement by Signature Artist Katherine Cordova is not as rhythmic as the original, rather it’s more legato, like a ballad. It features a challenging moving left hand part with beautiful triumphant chords in the right hand. Continue to bring out the melody in this fresh new take on a pop classic.

Unique Pick of the Week

·  “Main Theme from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom” by Katie Shesko: From the most recent game in The Legend of Zelda series, Signature Artist Katie Shesko creates a flute solo arrangement that brings out the main melody of this exciting new theme. Focus on keeping the tone of the wide range of notes consistent throughout, and be sure to bring out the exciting dynamic contrast.
