What’s New This Week: 10/18/23

Here’s this week’s highlights of our new songs we have to offer! Be sure to click here for all our new songs!

·  “ONE MORE TIME” by blink-182: From their upcoming album One More Time..., blink-182 brings us a more emotional, retrospective song that focuses on the band's history and the issues they’ve had to overcome, such as Tom DeLonge leaving the band and Mark Hoppus dealing with a cancer diagnosis. The piano part begins with just the left hand playing a guitar strumming pattern and gradually adds in more layers. Be sure to bring out the melody and the lyrics while taking a walk down memory lane with this punk-pop trio.

·  “Hands on Me” by Jason Derulo feat. Meghan Trainor: Putting their own lyrics and spin on Ben E. King's “Stand by Me,” Jason Derulo and Meghan Trainor bring us an updated, more sultry version of the original song. This arrangement is a good match for Meghan’s doo-wop sound, and the piano part keeps the well-known bass line going throughout. Invite your friends over to sing the backup vocal parts!

·  “Halloween Medley” by Harpistkt Kristan Toczko: Tune up your harp strings and get ready to play this massive 20-song medley! Arranged by Signature Artist Harpistkt Kristan Toczko, this is full of great songs for Halloween, including “This Is Halloween,” “The Addams Family,” “Stranger Things Main Theme,” and much more. This is a more advanced arrangement, so focus on one song at a time to get just the right spooky feel.

·  “Et Exultavit Spiritus Meus” by Johann Sebastian Bach: From Bach's Magnificat, BWV 243, this piece was originally written for five vocal parts and a Baroque orchestra. The Latin title means "And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior." This is sung by the Soprano II vocal part and is usually accompanied by strings, but this arrangement uses the piano reduction. This light and bright Baroque piece includes some beautiful vocal runs, and there are many opportunities for the vocalist to add ornamentation.

·  “Encanto Movie Medleys” by Nate Hance: This music comes from the blockbuster Disney movie Encanto, which is about a multigenerational Colombian family that has magical gifts. Signature Artist Nate Hance includes all of the favorites from the soundtrack, including "Surface Pressure," "Dos Oruguitas," "We Don't Talk About Bruno," and more. This piece includes the full medley as well as a shortened version that’s just one minute long! The arrangement features the best parts of each song, so be sure to watch for changing key and time signatures, trying to keep the medley as fluid as possible.

·  “When the Night Wind Howls” by Gilbert and Sullivan: From the comic opera Ruddigore by Gilbert and Sullivan, Robin takes on the "curse" of being a bad baronet and needs to carry out an evil crime every day. He's not being evil enough, so the ancestral ghosts confront him during this song. The lyrics set the stage for this spooky classical song, which is perfect for Halloween. Try to keep up with the always moving piano part, and go on a journey to the ghosts' high noon with our new Musicnotes Edition!

Unique Pick of the Week

·  “Mamma Mia Meets Haydn” by Florian Wagner: Combining this classic ABBA song with the characteristic piano stylings of Haydn, Signature Artist Florian Wagner includes many Baroque elements, such as embellishing sixteenth notes, trills, and other developmental parts. Throughout all the extra ornamentation, be sure to bring out the melody, and put on your best white wig to play this dignified arrangement!
