· “What Was I Made For?” by Billie Eilish: One of the more introspective songs on the Barbie movie soundtrack, Barbie is trying to figure out the purpose and meaning of her life. This is a peaceful piano ballad that features Billie’s beautiful upper register in the chorus.
· “A Strange Kind of Beautiful” by Bruno Major: From his upcoming album Columbo, British singer-songwriter Bruno Major creates a love song with unique lyrics about a bond between two people that is sometimes hard to explain. The poetic lyrics paint a picture: “To touch a frozen waterfall, a flower at a funeral, a strange kind of beautiful.” It features a flowing wave-like piano accompaniment with interesting chord shifts.
· “Romance, S. 169” by Franz Liszt: Composed in 1848, this was one of Liszt’s earlier works. It was originally composed as vocal piece entitled "O pourquoi donc (Why, Oh Why).” Primarily in E minor, it feels like the piece is going to transition and build to a major key in some parts, but at the very last second, the cadence surprisingly lands back in E minor. This is one of our newest Musicnotes Editions!
· “You'll Never Walk Alone [late intermediate]” by Lisa Donovan Lukas: Originally from the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical Carousel, this inspirational song has been covered by many artists, including Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Lana Del Rey, and Gerry & The Pacemakers. This arrangement from our Signature Artist Lisa Donovan Lukas focuses on different broken chord accompaniment patterns.
· “I'll Chase the Blues Away” by My Sheet Music Transcriptions: This big band classic features 18-year-old Ella Fitzgerald singing one of her first singles. This version was recorded in 1935 with the Chick Webb Orchestra, and this Signature Artist arrangement includes the condensed orchestra part in the piano accompaniment. This upbeat jazz song encourages you to look on the bright side of life!
· “You've Got a Friend” by Six String Fingerpicking: This is an accessible guitar accompaniment for the standard by Carole King. Be sure to sing along with the melody for your best friend!
Unique Pick of the Week
· “You're the Voice” by Francesco Parrino: Originally performed by John Farnham, this song was one of the biggest hits of 1986 in Australia, and it was also successful in quite a few countries in Europe. The power ballad was inspired by a protest march for nuclear disarmament at Hyde Park in London. The original features a bagpipe solo, and this advanced version by Signature Artist Francesco Parrino embellishes the melody to put his own spin on this ‘80s classic.
