· “I'm Just Ken” from Barbie: Ryan Gosling, performing the part of Ken, sings this 80s power ballad from the blockbuster movie Barbie. Ken is looking for love, and he feels like he is not being taken seriously by Barbie. The song includes a couple different power ballad elements, similar to Electric Light Orchestra. Be sure to rock out in the middle part with the sixteenth note bass line!
· “Oppenheimer” by Ludwig Göransson: From the movie Oppenheimer, this piano solo begins with an ethereal string quartet feel. It contains repeated pulsing notes while the chordal structure gradually changes. The song transitions to a methodical, almost scientific pattern towards the end, which is a perfect fit for the movie’s premise.
· “Last Resort (Reimagined)” by Falling in Reverse: A cover of the original by Papa Roach, rock band Falling in Reverse wanted to reimagine one of the biggest rock songs from the past twenty years. This is a slower, more piano-friendly version, and the lead singer creates a melody in the verses that were originally rapped. The song builds into big orchestral rock moments at the end with methodical sixteenth note patterns.
· “Climb Ev'ry Mountain” by William Haviland: This is an accessible piano solo arrangement of a classic inspirational song from The Sound of Music. Signature Artist William Haviland includes a big key change at the end to build momentum, and be sure to focus on the challenging octave jumps in the left hand.
· “Just the Two of Us” by Kelly Valleau: This quality fingerstyle cover of a Bill Withers classic comes from our Signature Artist Kelly Valleau. The Guitar tab arrangement focuses on the syncopated pattern of melody, but it also incorporates the lower bass accompaniment.
· “Embraceable You” by Emile Pandolfi: American pianist Emile Pandolfi puts his spin on this Gershwin jazz standard. This arrangement brings out emotive qualities of the song by using rubato, so make sure to be relaxed with tempo. This song also includes a flowing transition in the middle, almost sounding like a music box.
Unique Pick of the Week
· “Prelude in C Minor, Op. 28 No. 20 [jazz version]” by Brent Edstrom: This interesting arrangement is a jazz take on well-known prelude by Chopin. It adds interesting jazz chord shifts, exploring different possibilities of an otherwise straightforward, brief Romantic piece.
