Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.17.4
  • Viewer:
    • Fixed an issue when the view is destroyed but not the plugin while a file transfer has ended in error.
    • Included additional checks for missing viewer (null pointer) when view was erroneously destroyed by Internet Explorer.
    • Fixed a menu blanking problem that affected Internet Explorer users, where if the web menu was used when the Viewer had focus, ActiveX destroyed the view, leaving the plugin blank when the menu was dismissed.
  • Installer:
    • Installer now targets "\Program Files\Musicnotes" instead of "\Program Files\Musicnotes\Player" so plugins get installed to the Musicnotes folder.

Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.17.2

  • Installer:
    • For Google Chrome, the Musicnotes Viewer plug-in installer will give it a plugins folder if necessary, since recent versions of Chrome no longer do this.
    • The installer will ask you to close all browsers, and will then offer to go back to Musicnotes after installation is complete.
Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.17

Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.16
  • Microsoft Vista Upgrades:
    • Upgrade to Viewer 1.16 will automatically be required for Vista users.
    • Works on Vista, including being able to load fonts, start up the Player without any special user interference, save and print purchased files.
    • User info is now kept in a less protected place, so that it will be Vista Compatible. This means you no longer need to be an administrator or power user to get music for the first time, or do a restore. You still need to be an administrator to install the Viewer.
    • When you download files in Vista, the file save dialog will be a generic Vista save dialog, not be the special Musicnotes one.
      • Vista Viewer will not have the special buttons for the Sample and Full file folders.
      • There will be no checkbox saying "always download my digital sheetmusic to this folder."
      • If there is no "My Documents\Musicnotes" folder, the Viewer will not create it automatically : instead it will use plain "My Documents." The Player can create this folder; and if it does, the Viewer will use it, even on Vista.
  • Installation and Upgrade Changes:
    • Any visitor with Viewer 1.10 or earlier will be required to upgrade.
    • In IE7 and IE6 with XPXP2, the Viewer may upgrade more automatically, without unduly disturbing the user.
    • The manual Viewer installer now skips the little message box that used to say "WinZip Self-Extractor... Click the Setup button to install Musicnotes Viewer." We have upgraded the Manual Viewer instructions to reflect that.
  • Mozilla Browser Upgrades:
    • The Viewer no longer supports auto-installation on Netscape.
    • Viewer has new "Do" icons. The icons it uses for MTD files are once again the same as what the Player uses.
    • The toolbar no longer sits too low in Mozilla browsers.
    • The tooltips above the toolbar now work properly in Firefox.
    • The Firefox context menu doesn't come up when you right click the Viewer.
    • Scrollbars now redraw more correctly in Firefox.
    • If you print a page that has a Viewer embedded in it, (such as our product page) the notation will now print where the Viewer would appear.
    • In Netscape/Firefox, if there is an error downloading the file, the Viewer will not freeze as it once did.
  • Two new known bugs in Mozilla:
    • Now the "windows" buttons on the toolbar, like "save file" are the flat style, but our own big buttons (like add to cart) are still push-buttony; so there's a mixture of tool button types. This doesn't happen in IE. A revision of the button faces was postponed to a later version.
    • In Firefox, the toolbar doesn't change color to indicate when the Viewer has keyboard focus.
  • When you first upgrade and run the new Viewer (or Player) any current Machine-wide information is copied to:
    • the new (non administrator-requiring) Machine-wide info
    • and also to your new Individual Info.
  • Fonts:
    • Fonts are now kept in a special Musicnotes fonts folder.
    • If a file requires special fonts, the Viewer can download them from our website and install them automatically.
  • Printing Upgrades:
    • No more pages where the music characters all print sideways.
    • No more hollow beams at the top of some pages.
    • Dashed barlines now print.
    • When printing, if the print driver crashes, the Viewer may be able to detect the crash, avoid it, and send back a "Print Fail" event.
    • If the server says to do so, our Viewer will label each page copy 1 of 8, copy 2 of 8, etc. If you have already printed 4 copies, it will start with copy 5 of 8, etc.
    • This version of the Viewer can print a different license usage message on the title page.
    • If the server provides the data, the Viewer will put "Brought to you by: Name of sponsor" and optionally a sponsor's URL, on the title page.
  • Download and Account Changes:
    • When you download music, if you are downloading files sold to your machine wide account, then the file will be set for use to that account, and the Viewer will use it. If you are downloading files to you individual account, likewise.
    • There are now individual access rights as well as machine-wide rights for MTDs. And each individual user machine has their own account information when talking to our server with the Viewer.
    • When the Viewer installs, if the Player is not already installed, the Viewer will set up so that if you double-click an MTD file, it will launch a browser sourced to our Download Player page. This works even for an auto-Viewer installation.
    • Fixed file replace error when downloading an MTD file.
    • Fixed file save write access error when saving to a folder user does not have write access to.
  • Additional Upgrades:
    • Installs and works for recent versions of the Opera browser on Windows.
    • In Internet Explorer, the Viewer now responds correctly to the mouse rollbutton.
    • It used to be that the toolbar might not show the Player button correctly after a download (if you were out of print attempts.). Now it does.

Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.15
  • New version made to support Guitar Guru.
  • Has protection for dismissing the Product Download popup while a product download session is taking place. That has tended to cause browser crashes.
  • Installers do a better job of registering the type library. Helps with "undetectable Viewer" problem.
  • Recognizes the new MusicPrimaryPerformer metadatum. This is a performing group that is so closely linked to a song that they would be considered the author in the public eye. The old MusicGroupName was originally supposed to do that, but has been watered down with other kinds of performing groups.
  • If the Viewer sees an Primary Performer, it will use that instead of a composer name for the default, suggested filename to save with. For either kind of group, it will include the entire group name, not just the last name, if there is no comma in the name, or an "and" after that comma.
  • Support to tell the Player or Guitar Guru that you would "Return to CD" instead of "Return to Online" if Player is invoked from a Viewer of a CD file, not an online page.
  • When printing, the top three lines in the print dialog can vary.
  • Manual Installer fixes several issues:
    • Some values in the registry may have been getting truncated, sometimes.
    • The installer now properly asks if it is OK to overwrite registration of the extension .mtd by some other application when installing the ActiveX control. Formerly, it only did this correctly when installing for Netscape.
    • The Viewer now warns that you may have to exit IE for an upgrade to take effect if an earlier ActiveX were installed. That is, it should no longer do this for first-time installations.
  • Fixes a bug that could crash the Viewer when the Save dialog came up.

Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.14
  • This version can check for DVDs and auto-preen AGTs (associates.)
  • It optionally checks for and returns the Ids of up to two CDs or DVDs on the local system. This is useful for verifying free downloads for CD owners.
  • This version also embeds any AGENT name in a file downloaded as part of auto-preening.
  • New Windows Installer:
    • Give better diagnostics if something goes wrong.
    • Install equally well on Windows 95 and Windows XP. The "mindepend" and "minsize" distinction is no longer necessary for Manual installs.
    • It should be able to install more successfully on XP systems for shoppers who are not administrators or power users and have restricted access to the registry.
  • New features:
    • In titles, diacritical characters should no longer stand out in upper case.
    • Windows only: If the Viewer is installed on a subfolder of a former viewer (this happens often in upgrades of ActiveX) the Viewer can use the font file in the upper folder.
    • The Add to Cart button now appears on the right side of the tool bar. (If the plugin is resized narrower, the button will slide overtop the other buttons so it is always visible. Known issue on Windows: the button's position relative to the right edge may shift by a few pixels at various widths.
  • The Mac version clears up a known "postscript error" bug for some printers.

Changes in Musicnotes Player Version 1.13
  • First Mac version.
  • Greatly improves performance of the download progress indicator.
  • File errors while writing the temp during purchase download will no longer violate an assertion in the MTD reader. Instead, they will inform the user.
  • The sticky purchase button now conforms to Windows behavior. Instead of the simple double-click detector in rev 1.13.4, the Add to Cart button now sticks down when you press it. After enough time elapses with no server response, the button pops back up by itself.
  • We use the Mac Gestalt manager to make sure that required OS features are present. Previously this had been assumed by the user running a high enough OS version. Now we check explicitly.
  • When the plugin has keyboard focus, draw the whole toolbar in solid blue, instead of merely outlining the gray toolbar with a heavy blue border.
  • In centerText, make sure we use a plain (not bold or italic) 12-point system font.
  • Now it has robust CD-ROM detection on OS X too, and so is ready for the next enhanced CD project.
  • Instead of "scheduling" tasks by performing them immediately, it sets a corresponding flag and then performs the task at the next Null Event. This was necessary to prevent an loop wherein IE would spawn infinite online help windows after the second print attempt was reported to have failed.
  • A change to Cplugin class delegates to the different platforms the task of deciding whether the browser can even support online HTML help in the first place.
  • Autopreens in dealer information, to support AOL, Compuserve and Netscape partners.
  • Manual installer shows the version of Windows at the top.

Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.12.0
  • Solves landscape printing bug.
  • Manual Installer for ActiveX names dll by version and shows errors in hex.
  • It also shows whether this is a MinDepend (appropriate for Win 98) or MinIstall version.

Changes in Musicnotes Viewer Version 1.11.0
  • Avoids a problem where it could produce a "bad" file that was slightly too large if the customer did not yet have a Customer ID.
