Ashokan Farewell

I've loved this tune since I heard it on the Civil War documentary. One of my students was playing an adaptation of this song in a Faber method book, and I HAD to have the original arrangement. I'm working on it, as some of the fingerings are a bit unusual for me, but I really love it.

piano arrangement of Ashokan Farewell

I loved this piece of music, just perfect for me. I am not looking for great challenges in piano playing, just the pure pleasure of playing and sounding reasonably well. The song is haunting and very beautiful.

Ive rated this easy, which it is,but this in no way detracts from the beautiful melody(especially when played on the Accordian),a slight Scottish lilt me thinks.Because its easy to play the temptation is to elaborate.....Dont,youll spoil it.

Mellow range - if chosen

This beautiful melody is, in my opinion, best sung or played in a lower range -- perhaps alto for the ladies -- but it has variance in tones also. It is a favorite sweet melody. It was the background music for PBS 1990 mini-series, "The Civil War" by filmmaker Ken Burns.

Nice, easy piece. Fairly quiet and meditative - even suitable for use in church services.
