Sharny Russell is a gifted and highly respected Australian pianist, vocalist, composer, arranger, producer and educator. She is known for her warm, joyful presence, her compelling originals and arrangements, and her scat singing ability. Her skills have been praised by some of the world’s top musicians, including U.S. jazz legends Ray Brown and James Moody. She has produced two highly acclaimed originals albums with her own bands, two albums of well-known standards with iconic guitarist George Golla, plus two original Christian records. Sharny has produced an array of original works and arrangements in both jazz and gospel music, having written four gospel musicals as commissioned by Christian schools and churches. Her song “The Blessing” (“May the Lord Bless You Today”) is used worldwide. Sharny is also a leading jazz educator, and has been a long-time university lecturer in jazz vocals, keyboard harmony and a cappella ear training. She is the creator of the popular “12 Exercises For Singers” and “6 Exercises For Jazz Singers”, as well as the recently released “Piano Method for Jazz Singers”.
