Why did Johnny Mercer write that "It Had To Be You" was his favorite song?

"It Had To Be You" was written by Gus Kahn (words) & Isham Jones (music) in 1924. So, perhaps it was first heard by Johnny Mercer heard while he was still a teenager growing up in Savannah, Gworgia. Tony Bennett, on Track 4 of his CD "Tony Bennett Sings His All-Time Hall of Fame Hits" dedicates "One For My Baby (And One More For The Road)/It Had To Be You" to "my favorite poet," Johnny Mercer. Tony goes on to further state that Johnny wrote that "It Had To Be You" was Mr. Mercer's favorite song. Why would the great songwriter, Johnny Mercer, think so highly of this song? Up to this point, I figured "It Had To Be You" was just another 'love on a popsicle stick kinda song.' This tidbit of Tony's puzzled and intrigued me. So I decided to take a closer look at the air. It was during an internet search for lyrics that I chanced upon musicnotes.com. In short order, I made my first on-line, sheet music purchase! I found the chart to be accurate and the guitar chords were,
